Animation Design

2D animation design is a dynamic narrative art rooted in hand-drawn aesthetics and graphic design. Breathing frame by frame, using lines and colors as its language, it brings life to graphics, characters, and symbols in the flow of time. It is a key medium for emotional brand expression and poetic information delivery.

How We Do It

2D animation is not a lower-dimensional version of 3D animation, but an independent and profound visual language. It retains the most original brushstrokes and artistry of drawing, creating the illusion of movement through frame-by-frame differences. Whether it's the paper texture of traditional hand-drawn animation or the crispness of digital vector animation, 2D animation consistently maintains the aesthetic genes it shares with graphic design and illustration.

In the field of brand communication, 2D animation can achieve highly stylized visual expression with a relatively low production threshold. It can transform abstract brand concepts into concrete character stories, or enhance the memorability of logos and typography through the rhythm of motion graphics. Compared to live-action or 3D animation, 2D animation possesses irreplaceable flexibility in exaggerated deformation, symbolic transitions, and creating emotional atmospheres.

The core of 2D animation lies in "the painterliness of motion". Each frame is an independent design work, and the time interval between frames determines the rhythm and emotion of the action. RIDS emphasizes "design first" in 2D animation design—starting from the composition, color, and lighting of static images, then considering how to bring these design elements to life through motion. We pursue not flashy movement, but the emotional expression behind every line.

RIDS's 2D animation services cover a range of technical paths from traditional frame-by-frame hand-drawing to modern digital animation. We flexibly choose the most suitable expression method based on the project's tone and budget, ensuring the animation is both artistically compelling and precisely achieves communication goals.

Scope of Work

  • • 2D Animation Concept & Art Style Development
  • • Traditional Frame-by-Frame Hand-drawn Animation
  • • Digital Vector Animation / Motion Graphics
  • • Character Design & Dynamic Storyboarding
  • • Motion Graphics & Data Visualization Animation
  • • Audio-Visual Synthesis & Post-Production Editing

Design Process

RIDS 2D Animation Design Process

1: Concept & Art Direction

Duration: Approximately 1-2 months

Deeply interpret the project background and brand tone, establishing the overall narrative direction and visual style of the 2D animation. Complete character designs, scene style frames, and color scripts, laying the foundation for the animation's graphic aesthetic.

Scope of Work: Brand Interpretation & Audience Analysis / Narrative Script Planning / Character Concept Design / Scene Style Frame Creation / Color Script Production

2: Storyboard & Motion Design

Duration: Approximately 1.5-2 months

Based on the narrative script, draw detailed storyboards to determine composition, shot scale, movement direction, and timing for each shot. Create an animatic to preliminarily verify narrative rhythm and motion logic.

Scope of Work: Detailed Storyboarding / Animatic Production / Key Action Design / Timing & Timeline Planning

3: Art Assets & Animation Production

Duration: Varies depending on project complexity (typically 2-4 months)

Proceed to formal art asset creation and animation production. Based on the selected technical approach (frame-by-frame hand-drawn/digital animation), complete detailed drawing of characters, scenes, and props, then produce animation keyframes, in-betweens, or puppet animation. Conduct periodic motion previews and revisions.

Scope of Work: Character/Scene Refinement & Layering / Keyframe & In-between Drawing / Digital Animation Production / Effects Drawing (Hand-drawn or Compositing Effects)

4: Post-Production & Compositing/Output

Duration: Approximately 1-2 months

Collaborate with professional sound designers and composers for music and sound effects, then proceed with image compositing, color correction, and transition polishing. Output final videos suitable for various media such as websites, social media, and large-screen presentations, ensuring smooth playback and image quality.

Scope of Work: Music & Sound Effect Design / Voice Recording (if needed) / Post-Production Compositing & Color Correction / Multi-format Output & Compression Encoding

5: Delivery & Adaptation Support

Duration: Approximately 0.5 month

Deliver the final video in the required format, and optimize quality and aspect ratio for different playback platforms (e.g., WeChat, Douyin, official website, offline screens). Provide subsequent modification support and specification documentation.

Scope of Work: Multi-platform Format Adaptation / Playback Testing & Feedback / Final File Archiving & Asset Package Organization / Modification Coordination
