Nanjing Military Region Unit 28 Xianlin Campus Design Proposal
The new Xianlin campus of Unit 28 is strategically located on the western side of the Qilin area of Xianlin University Town, with main roads Huitong Avenue and Qilin Road, backed by Lingshan Mountain to the north, facing the scientific research office area to the west, and overlooking Qinglong Mountain to the south. Its master plan and individual buildings must reflect the characteristics of a military enterprise while also directly influencing the urban and architectural image along Huitong Road and Qilin Road.
Looking at well-known research institutes both in China and abroad, each has its unique charm and field of research. The 14th Research Institute of Nanjing focuses on radar, the 28th Research Institute focuses on electronic information integration, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States focuses on multidisciplinary development, and Lincoln Laboratory in the United States focuses on radar... The 28th Research Institute has undergone significant development at its headquarters campus and the new Xianlin campus. In Xianlin, a hopeful and intellectually rich higher education cluster, what kind of research institute will be built? How to reflect the characteristics of a military enterprise and a strong academic atmosphere while maintaining a modern feel? This is our starting point for thinking and design.

Xianlin, located in the eastern part of Nanjing's main city, is one of Nanjing's three sub-cities, about 15 kilometers from the city center. The Xianlin area is a key area for the development of higher education in Jiangsu Province in the 21st century, with several universities and research institutions scattered throughout, forming the Xianlin University Town, with an estimated total population of 230,000. The new Xianlin campus of the 28th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation is located south of the university cluster in Xianlin, east of the Nanjing Liquid Crystal Valley, covering an area of 253,100 square meters, with a total above-ground building area of 593,000 square meters, of which the initial planned construction area is 400,000 square meters and the reserved future construction area is 193,000 square meters. The completion of the new Xianlin campus of Unit 28 will undoubtedly better promote the connection between education, technology, and the economy, facilitate the transfer of military technology to civilian use, increase military-civilian integration, and provide technical support and talent assurance for China's high-tech development in the new century.
