Uncertain Future — Chinese Young Artists Exhibition Series

Entering society is a leap when the poetic fantasy of the future descends into reality. This weightless state marks the beginning of an artist's journey. The works of young artists at this stage are experimental and avant-garde, while also reflecting the new generation's understanding and contemplation of the current social situation and the self.
This exhibition serves as a platform to select young artists in Shanghai, aiming to identify promising, original young artists within the scope. Through organizing academic seminars and group exhibitions of young artists, it studies the artistic creation ecology and current state of Shanghai's young artists, building a platform for exchange between Shanghai's young artists and the national art community.

Heidegger said in "Pathmarks": "Every grasp must capture the surging flow of the process into concepts, and thereby necessarily destroy the essence of life, the restlessness and movement of life in the realization of its most proper nature."
The word "future," analyzed from a hermeneutic perspective: it is a continuous collection of "uncertain" concepts. It is determined by countless discrete present moments, similar to geometric points. The moment itself is merely the continuation of time, a pure boundary that both connects and divides the past and the future. These countless instantaneous points connecting the past and the future present an identification or rejection of the relationship between concavity and convexity, producing a difference related to the other.
The youngest generation today oscillates between reality and virtuality. The frequent switching and jumping between the two dimensions blur the boundary between the virtual and the real. Non-mainstream values and an inaccessible art path push them to the social margins. The emerging generation of young artists drifts in every corner and margin of society, striving to integrate themselves into this group with standard life ideals. Artists placed in the crevices of society exist as a resistance to mainstream social values. Rebellion, self versus self, self versus the mainstream, self versus society — all are forms of resistance. However, beyond these intense conflicts, this exhibition will also present some gentle forms of resistance, such as resistance and cohabitation with reality. This resistance is also a form of questioning, drawing attention and reflection to the uncertain future.
We hope that true "young people" do not pursue the empty fantasy of continuous progress along infinite linear time, but are prepared to stop time at any moment, thereby extracting hope and joy from each instant.
This exhibition will discuss the theme of "Uncertain Future" through artistic presentation, reflecting the values and self-perception of the emerging generation from the perspective of the young art community.
